Yeah, he’s one of my idols. After all, I’m an actor; I’m Italian; I’m the MLM Mobster.

And Al – what can I say? He’s given us some of the most memorable screen mobsters of the last century. Scarface, Michael Corleone…fugeddaboutit!

AL’S STORY
So, what’s Pacino got to do with Network Marketing? A lot – as you’ll see from this story.

Al wasn’t always rich and famous. Oh no. The man fought his way to the top. He made his bones, like any good tough guy.

You see, back in the day, Al was so freakin’ broke that he used to sleep until 2 or 3 in the afternoon to avoid hunger pangs. He was a superintendent in in a NYC tenement.

But get this. Really pay attention here. Superintendent was his circumstance. He was a leading actor, a star, in his mind.

So, he gets a call for an interview at a well known theater in Boston (maybe The Long Wharf). He borrows train fare and brown bags his food. He has the interview, and they offer him a role.

He takes it, right? WRONG! Al says, “No.” He turns down a paying gig when he’s practically starving. He’s left the rails, you think? No-no-no!

Remember. Al Pacino was a star in his own mind – where it counts. He turned down the job because it wasn’t a leading role. He thanked them and said that he only plays leads. What a set on this guy!

RICH WITHOUT MONEY

He goes back to the Big Apple penniless. But he’s rich! Because he’s a STAR!

The rest is history. He held on to his vision. Today, he’s a household name.

Al Pacino became a star by knowing what he wanted, by committing 100% to getting it, and doing whatever it took to seize his prize. Damn! That sounds like Network Marketing 101.

Are you as committed to your Network Marketing success as Pacino was to stardom?

It’s worth repeating and emphasizing. Al Pacino started his climb to the top by saying, “No!” to anything that wasn’t true to his clearly defined vision. Think about it. He started with , “No!” He had phenomenal POSTURE.

WHO ARE YOU IN BATTLE?

Now that’s a word we toss around a lot in Network Marketing. Posture. Do you have it when it counts? It’s easy to have posture at your company’s convention or on a weekly training call. But do you have it when you’re on the battlefield? Do you have it when you’re prospecting?

What does it mean to have posture when it counts? It means that you clearly define (on paper) the ideal person you want to attract to your team.

It means that when five, or six, or seven people in a row say no to you, that you don’t greet number eight like you’re a silly lapdog. Especially when number eight is a broke negative lame!

Your ability to say no requires an abundance mentality. Cultivate it. Nourish it. Cherish it.

Define and stay true to your vision. Then, prospect with your head held high as you easily make ‘em offers that they just can’t refuse.

You know, ordering your food from the left side of the menu without even looking at the price on the right. I’m not talkin’ about a splurge at Denny’s or Burger King…

If you chow down in those joints, and your eyeballs pull to the the prices on the right, chances are you barely have a life. Sorry for the dagger in your heart, but the MLM Mobster calls it like it is.

Anyway, don’t feel bad. I lived most of my early adult life on the right side of the menu. My mouth watered at the thought of Chilean sea bass; but the price gave me a knot in my stomach. My eyes immediately shot down to the $9.95 chicken. That’s what I ordered.

I was always worried about money. Okay, I’ll admit it. I was obsessed about it. I hate to say this, but my shoulders got tense the minute I walked into a nice restaurant.

As a kid, dinnertime in my family was always a lesson in scarcity. Don’t get me wrong, we always had food on the table. Good food. Hey, I’m Italian, and my dad was a good provider.

But my father came from poverty. He was a farm boy from a big family in a tiny Italian village near Naples. He lived through the Great Depression. So, before the first fork full of food entered my mouth each night, dad always said, “Do you know how much that would cost in a restaurant?”

I had no idea what those words were doing to my head. But for years, I avoided eating out for fear of going broke. And I resented people who could easily treat themselves to a delicious meal in a special restaurant.

Even after I got a good education and had a job, the thought of dropping fifty bucks in a restaurant was enough to keep me up at night. Imagine what that did to my social life. I mean the thought of taking a woman out to dine could make me break out in a sweat. I didn’t have a lot of fun dating.

All that nonsense ended when I discovered Network Marketing.

You see, I started earning money right away. Oh, it wasn’t big money at first. But it was residual income. And what a thrill when I watched it grow exponentially!

I’ve been with my primary company for five years. And the money now? Let’s just call it sweet.

I’ll let you in on a little secret that’s even sweeter. The thought that there are no limits on the money I can earn makes me giddy. That thought plus the confidence I’ve gained from my Network Marketing success have unshackled my mind from fears about money. Now, I practice and enjoy ordering my food from the left side of the menu.

Here’s what it’s like. A few weeks ago, I flew to Orlando 1st class. Because I could. I wanted to meet Omar Martin, an Internet marketer I’ve connected with online. I stayed at the Disney Swan resort. Because I could.

There are 17 restaurants at the resort. Something for every taste and budget. I’m not concerned about budget these days, so I chose to have dinner at Todd English’s Blue Zoo, an upscale seafood restaurant.

I smiled when I saw the menu. Everything was à la carte. And one item, the fresh catch of the day, had no price next to it. Just these two words, “market price.” Once upon a time those words would strike fear in my heart. Not anymore.

My waitress, Monica, told me that the fresh catch was called the dancing fish because it looks like it’s dancing while it cooks on a twirling skewer. I ordered it.

I drank an exotic beer and enjoyed the scenery while I waited for my food. The fish arrived, a yellow-tail snapper, and a young man filleted the delicacy at my table. When the first white morsel touched my tongue my whole body smiled. To say the fish was fresh and tender is an understatement. You don’t eat this kind of food, you savor every bite. It’s an indescribable sensual pleasure that keeps you totally in the moment.

My side dish was sinfully delicious. Fresh, crisp, green beans, in a light tempura, served with a truffle aioli dip. What does it taste like? Let’s just call it safe sex in public.

The finishing touch was a chocolate cake that I’ll have to show you because it’s impossible for me to describe and a cup of Blue Mountain coffee.

I thought about my dad as I was paying the bill. He would have been shaking his head in disapproval because I paid $14 for a piece of cake the size of a large cork. He would’ve reminded me that a fresh piece of snapper was only $10 on Arthur Avenue. He would have been right about the facts.

But the dinner I just had, probably one of the best in my life so far, has nothing to do with the facts. I didn’t buy a piece of fish. I bought an experience. I bought the chef’s amazing expertise. I bought the charming waitress’s service. I bought the classy atmosphere of my surroundings. I bought the intangibles of a lifestyle. Those intangibles make life so sweet and ever so worth living.

I’m deeply grateful to my dad for his hard work and sacrifice that made it possible for me to create a life way beyond survival. I’m grateful for my freedom, my wealth, and the incredible dreams that I can touch because of Network Marketing.

Your goal in Network Marketing is to build a loyal team of players who are fired up about you, the business, each other, and themselves. If you want that to happen, you’ve gotta learn what NOT to do when recruiting new reps. This will ensure you much greater success and a better night’s sleep, as well!
Never lie to a prospective recruit
Be honest about your company’s performance, compensation plan, upfront costs as well as hidden costs, expectations, etc. Letting a recruit know in advance what to expect will save you both time and heartaches. This will also help prevent the nightmare of new recruits who run for cover because they find out the “truth” about the program after they sign up. Having an unhappy ex-recruit out there is a sure way to destroy your reputation and business.
Never exaggerate your compensation plan
While it’s okay to point out the best possible scenario, never inflate the numbers when talking about how much a consultant can make with your company. Exaggerations are lies. Lying or exaggerating your business rewards will quickly ruin your reputation with your team, and in your business circles. Team members talk, and they’ll quickly let others know they can’t believe what you say about the business. Meanwhile, they’ll be searching for another crew they can join. A crew they can believe in!
Never maroon a new recruit
If you sign up a new recruit and then leave them to drift out to sea alone, you will quickly have an unhappy recruit, not to mention no return for your investment! Instead, offer training for your team members individually and as a group. Teach them to sell, and to recruit others. Help them build their businesses because doing so will build your business in the long run.
Never think money is the only motivation
Many people sign up because they want to earn extra money. Others – because they like the products, or they want something to do in their spare time. Some may only want to get the company discount. Keep this in mind as you’re recruiting. Each recruit has their own motivation, and all are valuable to your team. Pushing a recruit in a direction that’s contrary to their own personal motivation will only result in resistance and eventual failure.
Never forget friends and family as possible recruits
You may think “she’ll never be interested,” but you may be surprised to learn that your sister, cousin, aunt, or best friend are really looking for a way to earn some extra money. For that matter, never assume the answer will be “no” with anyone! Even if it is, you’ve not risked anything by offering the opportunity. You don’t want to hear, “Gee, I wish you would have told me how I could make extra money,” or, “I would have joined you if you would have asked,” or, “I didn’t know you could make money doing that.” Go ahead and offer the opportunity.
Remember – you’re setting people up for success or failure the very first time you talk to them. And, in Network Marketing, your success always depends on the success of others. Treat people right from the start, and they’ll learn to make offers that nobody can refuse. Treat people right, and you’ll build an MLM empire.

Finding new recruits is the backbone of a growing, successful Network Marketing business. With more and more Network Marketing companies allowing online recruiting, this task is easier than ever. Knowing how to locate new recruits using the Internet will save you time and effort as you work to build your team. Here are several ideas to get you started recruiting online:
Clearly post recruiting objectives on your website

The first thing to do is be sure your recruiting information is clearly posted on your website. This will be the page you direct prospective recruits to, so let it answer any question a new recruit might ask. Be sure to include a comprehensive FAQs section.
Include a signature file on outgoing emails

This is usually done through the Tools, Options, or Preferences section of your email program. Doing so will put a link to your website at the bottom of every message you send out and will let others know what your business is. It will also attract people to your website, which is what you want.
Use a creative tag line

Rather than simply signing off with the name of your company, use something like “Looking for a work-at-home opportunity that costs less than a new dress?” or “Ask me how you can earn a FREE sales kit when you join my team!” Come up with something that will interest prospective recruits and get them to click the link for more information.
Join a discussion forum

Discussion forums are a tremendous location for finding new Network Marketing recruits. Search the term WAHM discussion forum and you’ll come up with hundreds of possibilities. Visit the most likely results and see which ones appeal to you. Understand that you’ll be looking for people interested in a work-at-home opportunity or a way to earn extra money rather than those that deal specifically with directs sales. You’re looking for places that attract people who want to earn money, not a forum filled with other company reps.
Join an email group

Google Groups, Yahoo Groups, and similar sites offer thousands of email lists on any topic you can imagine. Search for large groups that have been around awhile and that show a lot of interaction between members. Again, target lists that attract your ideal recruit, rather than those filled with other consultants. And avoid those that are strictly ads. Ad lists (often called “SPAM lists”) are a waste of time. People join them simply to send their own ads and very few members actually read the messages.
Use your social networking

Tell people about your business opportunity using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Post small bytes of information that can “tease” people into visiting your site to find out more and to learn about your business. Don’t litter your social networking sites with only promotional posts, but throwing in a few casual “ads” every day is totally acceptable, and might gain you some of your best recruits.
Place an ad on Craigslist.

Be sure to use the correct business slot, or under the employment ads that apply to commission only jobs. Don’t be surprised or discouraged if your ad gets kicked off a few times, even if you followed the rules. Sometimes people will flag what they consider a competing business opportunity simply to get rid of the competition. These spiteful people are trying to stop you from running a clean, upright campaign for your business. Keep an eye on the site and if your ad disappears, simply repost it again. Hopefully, your competitor will eventually get the message that you’re determined to place an appropriate ad on the site and stop flagging it. If not, contact the webmaster with your concerns.
Avoid using SPAM

A very important rule of “netiquette” to keep in mind is to never use SPAM to locate new recruits. SPAM is unsolicited commercial messages sent to people you don’t know or who haven’t asked to receive your information. Sending such messages can get you kicked off forums, dropped from lists, and banned quicker than you can say “I’m sorry!”
Learning how-to locate new recruits online is a simple process, and one that will reward you greatly as you begin to sign on new team members and consultants to build your business.
